A celebration of the Lunar New Year, presented by the Asian Chamber of Commerce of Acadiana, will kick off this Saturday in Lafayette.

This is the Chamber’s second presentation of the Lafayette celebration and the first time the event will be held at Parc International in Downtown Lafayette. The event begins at 10:30 am and will continue until 4:30 pm.

2019 will celebrate the Year of the Pig in accordance with the Chinese Zodiac calendar. The Lunar New Year is celebrated by Asian communities across the globe.

KATC’s Dave Baker was at Parc International this morning with a preview.

Guest will experience an injection of Asian culture here in Acadiana with opportunities to partake in traditional foods, entertainment, and participate in creating your own Lunar New Year arts and crafts.

Chinese Immersion students from Middlebrook Elementary will perform a few songs during the celebration. Students studying at Acadiana Karate will also perform. The groups joined us on GMA for a preview.

Food and Drink will be provided during the celebration. GMA got a quick look at some of the offerings cooked up by Blu Basil Bar & Grill.

The event is open to the public.
