This weekend, New Iberia will host the 29th annual World Championship Gumbo Cookoff in Bouligny Plaza in Downtown New Iberia.

The event will include over 90 participants stirring up over 100 different types of the best gumbo around all for a chance to earn the top prize.

KATC’s Abby Breidenbach was LIVE this morning for a preview on this delicious event.

On October 13 and 14, Bouligny Plaza will be filled with the smells of Cajun Country thanks to the 29th annual World Championship Gumbo Cookoff. A full lineup of entertainment and food competitions of all kinds will take place during the two-day event.

This year’s theme is “The Hidden Treasure.”

Events include the Youth Gumbo Cookoff, Meanest Beans Competition, Roux Run, Gumbo Cookoff, booth decorating contest, live music, children’s activities, and more.

The event is free and open to the public, but on Sunday tasting for Gumbo will be $5 for seafood and $4 for non-seafood.
