The National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold their 12th annual 5K Walk for Mental Illness on Saturday, October 6 at Beaullieu Park.
The event is put on each year to raise funds but also as a way to bring together people of all ages and fitness levels to bring awareness and combat the social stigmas surrounding mental illness. Funds from this year’s walk will go toward the Acadiana Chapter’s continued implementation of programs, educational courses, and support groups. Those services are offered free of charge and are volunteer run.
Those interested can register online at www.namiwalks.org/Acadiana or at Beaullieu Park beginning at 8:00 am. The walk begins directly at 9:00 am.
Agencies from around Acadiana who help with mental health will be set up at the park. The park is located behind Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on Ambassador Caffery.
