KATC’s Dannielle Garcia is LIVE at Vermilionville with details on this weekend’s Creole Culture Day.
The family-friendly event will be held at Vermilionville in Lafayette from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and will explore the history and evolution of the Creole community in Acadiana. The event is the first of three Culture days that are held annually at Vermilionville and will include Acadian and Native American Culture days.
Vermilionville’s exhibit on the slave trade, "Purchased Lives: The American Slave Trade from 1808 – 1865," will open at 10:00 am.
The event will feature spoken word, Creole language discussions, tours of the Broussard Home, a historic meet-and-greet with America’s first African-American mayor Pierre Landry, genealogy discussions, and more.
