CODOFIL, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana, is celebrating a big year in 2018. The agency is turning 50 and just received the International Achievement Award during Festival International on Thursday night.

The award, created in 1998, was presented to CODOFIL on behalf of the Lafayette International Center, which is the international arm of LCG.  According to the Lafayette International Center, the honor is given each year to an outstanding individual, company, or organization that has significantly enhanced the international reputation of Lafayette and Acadiana through international commerce, tourism, arts, and music or goodwill ambassadorship.

CODOFIL, created by an act of the legislature in 1968, is the State’s agency for promoting the French language, heritage, and culture in Louisiana.

CODOFIL officials say that there is still work to be done in promoting the French language and Louisiana’s French roots. The goal of the agency is to see the French language flourish once again in Louisiana.
