St. Landry-Evangeline United Way to host Yard Bird Cook-Off

The St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will host the Yard Bird Cook-Off on Saturday, May 12 in Downtown Opelousas Courthouse Square. 

The Cook-Off is a fundraising event for the United Way and will feature teams cooking different types of yard birds including, duck, chicken, and quail.

Teams can register for the event until May 9. The registration fee is $50 per team and teams are allowed to cook their yard birds any way they choose. For more information on how to register call 337-942-7815 or go to uwsle.org. Payments for registration will need to be made over the phone or at the United Way office.

The event is free to the public and will include activities for the entire family. Activities for children will line Court and Bellevue Streets and include face painting, Mother’s Day craft stations, fun jumps, and a Dolly Parton Imagination Library Reading Tent. 

A silent auction and raffle will also be held. 

Entertainment for the event includes Big Al from KBON and music by Southwinz Band. Local dance, cheer, and sports groups will also be performing. Groups interested in scheduling a performance can call 942-7815.
