Right in the middle of the Hub City is Lafayette's centerpiece, Girard Park. Over 30 acres await, and it's a short walk from the UL Campus, the Oil Center, and the Lafayette General Medical Complex. Especially during the cooler months, Girard Park is filled with people.
The pond is stocked, and you'll find folks fishing every day. You'll get a dose of some urban wildlife, the ducks are hanging around while the squirrels dart back and forth.

The walking trails are easy, and mostly shaded. You can get a couple of miles in, whether you walk or run. Take advantage of the bike lanes around the park.
The playground area is super for kids, and Parc Independence allows all kids to play, no matter who they are! There are tennis courts to enjoy.
If you want to get the family together, but still be outside with plenty of room to spread out, covered picnic areas are the way to go, regardless of the weather.
At the recreation center, there's a pool during the warmer season, and the Lafayette Parks and Recreation district always have programs for anyone.
Take in a game of hoops, maybe some frisbee golf! Or perhaps nothing at all!
