LAFAYETTE — An attorney accused of stealing money from his clients has pleaded guilty to grand theft and is no longer allowed to practice law.

Harold Register, Jr., pleaded guilty Thursday to not refunding a client $16,000. He faces up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines. A sentencing date has not been set.

Three days earlier, the Louisiana Supreme Court permanently disbarred Register for mishandling clients' funds, for not communicating with clients, and other charges.
