CARENCRO — In 2018 the Bears heated up in district play winning four of their last five. Now Carencro hopes their young roster can build on that success.

The Bears went just 5-6 last season, but lost just one time in district 5-4A action to state runner up St. Thomas More.

Carencro returns five starters on each side of the ball.

Tony Courville's team is generally young, but he loves his leadership.

"This team wants to play together. They're united," he said. "We've had a tremendous off-season. One of the best I've been around in all my years."

Carencro switches their defense from a base 3-4 to 4-3. Courville says it's in response to the team's deeper crop of defensive linemen. Defensive back Ra'Sjad Onezime says he likes that the change allows him to make morep lays.

"We have more big guys up front, and it gives me more time to get to the ball, pick up the gaps, see where they're open and help me out better."
