ABBEVILLE — Vermilion Parish voters will consider five ballot propositions during the November 16 election.

Three of those items ask voters to renew property taxes to fund infrastructure works. The Prairie Gregg Drainage District (16 mills), Coulee Baton Gravity Drainage District No. 1 (16.35 mills), and Road District No. 7 (8.62 mills) all have tax renewals on the ballot. Those taxes, if renewed, would be extended for an additional 10 years.

Voters who live in Coulee des Jonc will consider an in-lieu millage to replace an existing property tax. Right now, residents pay an 11.53-mill property tax. The proposition asks voters to consider replacing that millage with a special 16-mill property tax to raise more money for drainage maintenance and operations. If approved, that tax would raise approximately $448,000 annually through 2026.

Meanwhile, voters in Vermilion and Iberia Parishes will consider a tax renewal to fund the Twin Parish Port District. That 10-year, one-mill property tax would be extended through 2029 if approved. The tax would raise an estimated $37,300 annually for the port district's general fund.

Early voting continues through Saturday.
