A Breaux Bridge man is facing a simple arson charge in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Investigators say 31-year-old Charles Terrell Fendley intentionally set fire to a vacant home in September on North Flannery Road in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The investigation determined arson to be the cause of the fire.
The home, located in a wooded area, was reportedly vacant and had no utilities.
A witness allegedly told investigators that Fendley mentioned his plans to burn down the home. A second witness also allegedly told investigators that Fendley borrowed their vehicle to go to the store and did not return for several hours.
Upon contacting him, the witness told investigators that Fendley stated he was "in the woods."
A strong smell of gasoline was reported by the witness after the vehicle was returned.
Fendley was arrested and booked Wednesday, November 6 into the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office on a charge of simple arson.
His bond is set at $50,000.
The Baton Rouge Area Crime Stoppers, Lafayette Fire Department Arson, and the Lafayette Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
