LAFAYETTE, La. — UPDATE: 1/10/2019

The Lafayette Parish District Attorney's Office tells KATC that it refused charges against Shawn Calvit after reviewing the case on Jan. 10, 2019.

This means that when the prosecutor reviewed the charges they didn't accept them.

The case against Cavlit has effectively been dropped and will not proceed in the court system.

A Lafayette businessman was arrested Tuesday on theft charges, accused of selling a home he did not own.

Lafayette Police say the incident occurred in August of 2017. The victim in the case, according to police, paid 46-year-old Shawn Calvit of Lafayette $9,000 for a mobile home and an additional $1,000 for the transport of that home.

An initial offense report claims that after several attempts to get Calvit to deliver the home, the victim learned that Calvit allegedly did not own the home and did not have permission to sell it.

Calvit was arrested Tuesday, May 1, 2018, on theft charges. He was booked into jail on a $15,000 bond.

He has since bonded out of jail.
