LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Police in Louisiana say a 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot when other people were playing with a gun - and not by a drive-by shooter, as reported earlier.

Lake Charles Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus says in a news release that the child was taken to a hospital immediately after the shooting about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday.

He says the boy is in stable condition.

He said witnesses told police at first that the boy had been wounded by a drive-by shooter, but that report turned out to be false.
