Rain chances increase this week

Posted: Updated:

Monday is more or less in the books and we can start taking a peak out toward the rest of the work week and what the forecast has in store for south Louisiana.

Some of the obvious culprits will be there, heat and humidity can always be found around this time, but the extended forecast is looking a little more interesting than your typical summer pattern.

Southerly winds will continue to keep enough moisture in place for the occasional shower or thunderstorm to pop up in the afternoon, and the chances will slowly increase through the rest of this week.

In the meantime a surge of deep tropical moisture will start to push in from the Yucatan into the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days, further development doesn't look likely, but regardless whoever catches this moisture will get a ton of rain.

There still a whole week between now and when we could see that moisture along the Gulf Coast, but early indications look like it'll be headed to east Texas and west Louisiana.

This would mean a good amount of rainfall to wrap up the weekend and start next week, which would help bolster our lackluster rain totals from the last several months.

We'll update the forecast as we get more details but until then just be ready for a hot and muggy few days and look out for those pop-up showers and thunderstorms.
