Lafayette Police are working a robbery at the Chase branch in the Oil Center.

The suspect entered the bank just before noon, police said. He demanded money, and then fled on foot. No injuries were reported, police say.

Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department say they have recovered additional photographs of the suspect, who is believed to be involved in the earlier report of an armed robbery in progress.  The suspect is now believed to wearing dark colored shoes and shorts, a white t-shirt and a white cloth around his neck.

A Lafayette General Hospital painter, Rodney Dugas saw a suspicious man near the bank.
"You know I had seen a suspicious looking person and the police officer had asked me if I had described the person I had seen," said Lafayette General Hospital painter Rodney Dugas.

But he says, the suspicious person he had seen is not the suspect police are looking for.

"And, the police officer asked me if it was a  black or white guy, and I had said it was a white guy I had seen. But, he kinda told me it was more or less a black guy that had taken some money from the bank," said Dugas.

Hospital security is now looking for the suspect through surveillance footage from the bank and rest of the building.
"They just wanted to see the footage and see if anyone had come across the parking lot be close to what they were looking for," said LGSH Facility Support Supervisor and Security Officer, Joseph Thomas.
"I was kinda the birds-eye view on top of the roof, and what I was looking for is just if I could see anything suspicious from the rooftop," said Thomas.

But, Thomas says he wasn't able to spot anything from his perspective.

The suspect is described as being tall, with a thin build.  He was at first believed to be wearing light blue pants, dark colored shirt, light blue head covering and a white cloth covering his face.

It is said the suspect was armed with silver colored firearm.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to contact Lafayette Police or Crime stoppers 232-TIPS (8477).
