UPDATE: State Police have released the identity of the person killed in a Wednesday morning crash.
Thirty-two-year-old Kriss Stoute, of Morse, was a passenger in a truck traveling south on LA 92 shortly after 6:30 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, it ran off the road and struck a culvert, according to police.
Stoute was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner's Office, troopers say.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries, according to a spokesman with State Police Troop I. Five other occupants inside of the vehicle were not restrained and received minor to moderate injuries, the spokesman says. All were transported to various local hospitals for treatment. Troopers say only one passenger was properly restrained.
Troopers believe the driver was impaired at the time of the crash. A toxicology sample was taken from the driver to be submitted for analysis. Troopers also believe the driver may have been speeding.
Due to the fact there were several witnesses, the State Police Bureau of Investigations was contacted to assist in the investigation. Accident reconstructionists from Troop I will also conduct a thorough crash investigation. This crash remains an active investigation. Charges are pending.
