The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office is hiring.

The sheriff's office is looking for communications and correctional deputies, Major Wendell Raborn said. 

"Corrections and Communications is a stepping stone," Raborn said. "It's a base area to get into and explore the other avenues that we have. We are open to young minds who are willing to work for us, we're looking for workers, people who want to work." 

Requirements for a Correctional Deputy position are: 
· 18 years of age or older
· High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
· Work 12 hour shifts 
· Work nights, weekends and holidays
Steps for Employment:
· Application Completion
· Background Investigation
· Pre-employment orientation and testing
· Oral Interview
· Conditional Job Offer
· Drug Screen

Requirements for a Communications Deputy position are: 

· 18 years of age or older
· High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
· Type 35 words per minute
· Work 12 hour shifts 
· Work nights, weekends and holidays

· Drug Screen

    A state judge sentenced a Lafayette man to seven years in prison for his conviction on a cruelty to a juvenile charge. Riad Adnan Qarib was found guilty of the charge by a jury in January.  Qarib was accused of allowing his girlfriend's five-year-old son to inhale heroin from a hookah while in his care and custody. The Department of Child and Family Services received the report and contacted the Lafayette Police Department who investigated the allegations, reported Stutes. ...
