Lafayette firefighter to run in full gear to bring awareness to premature births

A firefighter is raising awareness about premature births by running a 5K in his full fire gear.

Jules Bruchez is running in honor of his friends' son Drew who was born at 24 weeks old. According to to the fundraising page, Drew was born with underdeveloped lungs and still struggles with medical issues. The family is hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of his therapies. he funding page is helping to cover Drew's therapy. Any surplus gathered will go to other families in need. Drew will turn three next week and Jules Bruchez hopes his run will serve as inspiration for Drew as he gets older. 

"I hope drew takes away that he can see that there is good in this world, we have a very bad habit of always focusing on the negatives, there's a lot of good out there, and if you just look deep down inside your heart, you'd be surprised on how much good you have inside of you. And hopefully it will inspire him to help others and it will continue to pass itself down," Jules Bruchez, Lafayette Fire Department.

The 5K will happen on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Bouligny Plaza in New Iberia. The Running of the Bulls race will feature a 5K for military and first responders in which Bruchez will be taking part in.
