Filming underway for new Syfy Horror film

Basile, LA. -

Filming is underway in Acadiana for a new horror film. The director of that movie says Acadiana is the perfect place to shoot his film.

The movie is being shot at The Lodge at Tee Mamou in Basile and some areas in Lafayette.

A title for the movie has not yet been set, however, it is scheduled to premiere on the Syfy channel later this year.

"It's going to be airing in August," Director Griff Furst said. "It's going to be one of the shark movies on Syfy, but there's actually an alternate version that has nothing to do with the shark. That will be on DVD and streaming around the same time."

The lodge, Furst says provides the perfect setting for his film.

"I wrote it with this property in mind, " Furst said. "I actually wrote this movie with that in mind because I went up to the lodge 4 or 5 years ago. I love the property. It's incredible. It's huge and has all these different cabins. "

The people of Tee Mamou are welcoming the crew with open arms.

"The buzz that it's created in the area gives people a sense of pride that they were chosen for this type of venture," owner of the lodge Andrew Ahrens said. "They're spending money out here. We have catering coming. We have extra staff and extra people to handle their wishes and demands, so it's kind of an economic boom."

The crew says they feel at home in Acadiana.

"It's just wonderful," actor Tony Amendola said. " You have a chance to work in various states in this country. The thing I love about Louisiana is as everything gets homogenized, as you go from city to city and find the same thing.  You come to Louisiana you know you're in Louisiana and it's just a wonderful stance of culture, and Architectural style, food and I love shooting in Louisiana."

Ahrens added, "It's a gorgeous place and I think more and more people will discover it after this movie of course."
