La Fondation Louisiane and the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL) will present a screening of the documentary Zachary Richard, Cajun Heart which will include a performance by Richard.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette. The evening will also feature a Q&A session and performance by Richard and Les Étoiles d’Immersion (Stars of Immersion), a French immersion children’s choir.

Directed by Canadian filmmaker Phil Comeau, Zachary Richard, Cajun Heart follows the internationally-renowned Louisiana musician and poet Zachary Richard on his quest to understand why Acadians and Cajuns are such a resilient people and to assess the status of the Acadian identity today. The film made its world premiere in November 2016 at the Festival International du Cinéma Francophone en Acadie (Acadian International French Film Festival) and has since been presented at screenings and festivals in the United States, Canada, France, Belgium, Austria, and Switzerland. The film was also screened as a special selection at the United Nations in Geneva in March 2017.

Dr. William Arceneaux, President of CODOFIL, calls the film "a stunning documentary: cinematic, educational, moving and entertaining."

Admission for the event is $20, with proceeds benefitting La Fondation Louisiane and its French-language scholarship programs. Tickets can be purchased at the box office the evening of the event or in advance at www.tiny.cc/cajunheart. This screening is presented as one of several events celebrating CODOFIL’s 50th anniversary in 2018. For more information on the agency’s 50th anniversary, visit www.codofil50.org.
