Catch a Louisiana high school senior on American Idol

Posted: Updated:

Justice Henderson is live at 5 tonight with Laine Hardy and his family for a viewing party!

A high school senior from Livingston is turning his musical dreams into reality.

Laine Hardy made it to the judges on American Idol, and says a push from his mother changed his life.

"I'm usually fishing in the swamp, going to school, singing and riding in my truck," says Hardy.

He says he's living a dream he never imagined could be his reality.

"It all started when I was about 7 years old. My mom, for Christmas, she got me a First Act guitar at Wal-Mart, and then after about a year, they put me in guitar lessons because I wanted to learn how to play the guitar," he says.

But the guitar wasn't his only musical talent; he could also sing. His mother challenged him to share those talents with the world.

"One day I just kept practicing and practicing, and then I started being able to sing in front of my friends, then in front of people I didn't know, and then play at restaurants and stuff locally and it just started from there," he says.

His mom has bigger ideas, though.

"One day I got home from school and my mom said she wanted to talk to me about something, so I went over there and talked to her and she said "I think you should try out for American Idol". and i said mom. I don't think I'm ready for that. I went inside and thought about it and came back outside and I told her I was going to do it. I did it, and here I am."

Right now, Hardy is in a band with his brothers and cousins. His brother says he could not be more proud to watch his little brother spread his wings.

"We are very proud, I'm very proud, especially to see my little brother go so far in what he wants so bad. and this is what he wants, and he got it," his brother says.

You can watch Hardy on American Idol tonight on KATC TV3 at 7 p.m.
