$563K announced in federal aid for local governments to help recovery

FEMA has announced more than half a million dollars has been awarded for emergency protective services in Louisiana following Tropical Storm Harvey.

Here are a few examples of FEMA’s recent obligations outlined in a press release: 

  • Louisiana National Guard will receive more than $240,000 in federal reimbursements for statewide response and recovery efforts.
  • Allen Parish Mosquito Abatement District will receive $113,000 for mosquito abatement from FEMA to reimburse their efforts in the early response to the storm.
  • Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness was awarded $62,625 for state administrative response and recovery operations.
  • Beauregard Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will receive $24,719 for labor and equipment reimbursements.
  • Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department was awarded $17,686 for sandbag operations, monitoring roads and bridges and organizing evacuation routes.           
  • St. Mary Parish Government will receive $8,780 for sandbag operations.  

The state and FEMA continue to work with 53 applicants to develop specifications and costs for eligible recovery projects. FEMA reimburses 75 percent of eligible expenses.

Funds cover repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities and infrastructure, debris removal and emergency response activities in designated parishes. Twenty Louisiana parishes were included in the disaster declaration for Public Assistance disaster aid. This includes eleven parishes that are eligible for Category B Work (emergency protective measures) only.

The 20 Louisiana parishes affected are Acadia, Allen, Assumption, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, De Soto, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Natchitoches, Plaquemines, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, St. Charles, St. Mary, Vermilion, and Vernon.
