New Iberia Main Street nominated for national contest, $25,000 prize

Posted: Updated:

New Iberia Main Street has been nominated for the 3rd annual America's Main Street contest hosted by Independent We Stand.

The contest began in February and will continue with chances to vote for a favorite Main Street continuing until April 22. The main street with the most votes will receive a $25,000 cash prize to help consumers, small business owners, and main street organizations continue to revitalize their communities.

The New Iberia Main Street organization says that the downtown area has been revitalized in recent years with a large percentage of building being either renovated or restored. The organization says these changes have given the area a "Sense of Place," attracting film crews, tourists, and residents alike.

New Iberia Main Street was recognized by the National Main Street Center in 2005 as the winner of the Great American Main Street Award.
