State Police say a teenager involved in a serious crash Friday afternoon has died of his injuries.

Troopers say the crash happened March 2, 2018, along Jefferson Island Road near Norris Road in Iberia Parish just before 2:30 p.m. In a release, troopers report that the driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Charles Reed of Delcambre was traveling south on Jefferson Island Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

Reed was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene to Lafayette General Hospital. Two passengers in the vehicle were restrained at the time of the crash but both sustained moderate to severe injuries. The two were also transported to Lafayette General.

On March 5, 2018, Troopers were notified that Reed succumbed to the injuries he received in the crash. Troopers say it is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
