Cajuns Baseball Hosts No. 16 LSU At Russo Park

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to open a four-game homestand at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park starting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as the Cajuns host 16th-ranked LSU for the first time since 2013.
Where to Listen/Watch
The contest will be broadcast live on Cox Sports Television (CST) and simulcast on ESPN3 outside of the CST viewing areas. Lyn Rollins, Ronnie Rantz and Richie Falgout will call the action on CST.
Fans can also listen to the game on ESPN 1420-AM with Jay Walker and Brad Topham on the call. Live stats are available on RaginCajuns.com.
Ticket Availability
Standing room only tickets go on sale to the general public starting at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Russo Park Ticket Office. Standing room only areas are located under the grandstand and at the third base canopy down the left field line. Additionally, a new point of sale for food and drink has been added at the third base canopy.
The Series
LSU owns a 54-24 edge in the all-time series as the Ragin' Cajuns have lost five straight to the Tigers. The two teams met once a year ago with the Cajuns falling 3-2 in the Wally Pontiff Classic in Metairie, La. The Ragin' Cajuns last win against the Tigers came in 2014 at Alex Box Stadium in rain-shortened contest.
Louisiana is 1-2 all-time against LSU at home under head coach Tony Robichaux. The Cajuns dropped the last home meeting against the Tigers, 11-2.
Scouting Louisiana
The Ragin' Cajuns (4-7) are coming off of a 2-2 week including a 1-2 mark at the Shriners College Classic. Louisiana opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss to No. 21 Mississippi State, but bounced back to shutout No. 12 Vanderbilt 3-0. No. 7 Kentucky got the better of the Cajuns, 10-4, in the final game of the Shriners College Classic.
Junior Gavin Bourgeois leads Louisiana with a .275 average and four RBI having reached base in six straight contests, while senior Kennon Fontenot has a team-best six RBI with a double and a home run.
Senior Colten Schmidt will make his third start of the season for the Ragin' Cajuns against LSU coming off of a strong outing against Nicholls. Schmidt recorded seven shutout innings with six strikeouts in the victory over the Colonels.
Scouting LSU
LSU is riding a three-game win streak after claiming three games over the weekend against Toledo 8-1, Sacred Heart 7-0 and Southeastern Louisiana 4-2. The Tigers will host Southern on Tuesday night before making the trip down I-10.
Offensively, LSU is hitting .307 with 25 doubles, four triples and 12 home runs. Newcomer Brandt Broussard is pacing a club that is averaging 7.2 runs per game with a .432 average and 11 RBI. Beau Jordan is back for his senior season and has a .405 average with four doubles, three home runs and six RBI.
Freshman AJ Labas will make his second start of the season in the contest. Labas tossed two scoreless innings in a start against Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.

Following the matchup with the Tigers, the Cajuns will host South Alabama in a rare non-conference series at Russo Park starting Friday at 6:30 p.m. The opening game of the series will be broadcast on CST.
