Three high school teams in Acadiana will be participating in a chance to represent Louisiana in the National Science Bowl.

Teams from Berwick High School, David Thibodeaux Stem Magnet Academy, and St. Martinville Senior High School will be competing on March 10, 2018, in New Orleans against 11 other schools in the state for the chance to head to the nation's capital.

Regional winners will continue on to Washington DC to compete in the Department of Energy Office of Science's National Science Bowl which will happen April 26 -30. The competition was launched to interest students in pursuing careers in science and math.

The national winners will receive prizes for the team including trips to Alaska and national parks across the country to learn first-hand about science in the field; as well as trophies, medals, and supplies for their schools' science departments.

Organizers say the competition tests students' knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Middle and high school teams consist of four students, one alternate, and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach. These teams face-off in a fast-paced question-and-answer format, being tested on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth and space science, physics, energy, and math.
