Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux has appointed Robert Melanson as the new director of the Lafayette International Center.

Melanson began his work as director on February 26 and replaces Philippe Gustin who recently retired from the position. LCG says that Melanson's duties as Director of International Trade and Development will be focused on enhancing Lafayette's international standing. Job duties include hosting foreign delegations, leading trade missions abroad, overseeing interpretation and translations for community organizations, and promoting the economic growth of the area through exports.

A Lafayette native, Melanson attended Teurlings Catholic High School in Lafayette before pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. According to the release, Melanson has worked on four continents and speaks several languages including Spanish and French.
