On Monday morning, March 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., LPSS says that resource officers investigated a report of a gun on the Acadiana High School campus.
Scott Police say that two students noticed a gun box in a duffle bag in a locker room at the school. The gun was allegedly found inside the box along with rounds inside the magazine. Police say that the round was not chambered in the weapon.
The student that brought the duffle bag to school was located and transported to the Scott Police Department. The student's parent was called and questioned along with the student.
Police say the juvenile admitted to bringing the gun to school but stated that he forgot it was in his bag. During the interview, it was determined that the juvenile did not intend to harm himself or others on campus.  Louisiana law states that it is illegal for any to carry a dangerous weapon on school property.
The student was arrested and charged.
According to LPSS, there was no direct threat made to any members of the Acadiana High School faculty or student body.
