The Scott Police Department says that a man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a vehicle from a business located on Cameron Street on February 24.

Police say that the vehicle was spotted by deputies from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department on February 25 and that the driver led deputies on a pursuit through Lafayette Parish. The driver and passenger fled from the vehicle in Acadia Parish after the vehicle got stuck in the mud.

Scott Police interviewed the passenger of the vehicle who identified the driver as 35-year-old Justin Melancon of Ville Platte.

Melancon was detained by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office on March 2 for questioning by the Scott Police Department. Investigators say that during questioning Melancon confessed to burglarizing the business and stealing a vehicle.

Melancon was charged with Simple Burglary, Criminal Damage to Property, and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. He is currently held in the Evangeline Parish Correctional Center awaiting transfer to Lafayette Parish.
