Cool Schools: Opelousas High School

Posted: Updated:

Today's Cool School is Opelousas High School!

Opelousas High School proudly recognizes Ahraf Swati as Student of the Year. The Louisiana Department of Education annually recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding students enrolled in public, private or charter schools throughout the state at the fifth, eighth and twelfth grade levels.

The students compete at the school level, the parish level, regional level and then state level to find one winner for each of the aforementioned grades. The competition includes filling out an exhaustive application listing all academic and extracurricular accomplishments, building a detailed portfolio of achievements and writing samples, and completing an interview at each level.

Student of the Year candidates must also maintain a 3.2 GPA. Ahraf shines as an honor student at OHS with a 4.24 GPA. Ahraf had previously competed at the fifth and eighth grade levels and was surprised, but pleased to win the school level competition and even more surprised to win the parish level.

He states, "I am extremely honored by both achievements and to have the privilege to move on to regionals and represent St. Landry Parish." Good Luck Ahraf!
