LAFAYETTE -

Lafayette philanthropist and Hub City Ford business owner Marcelle Citron has died. She was 91.

Marcelle passed away at her residence in Lafayette Saturday lovingly surrounded by family.

The New Orleans native had a list of accolades under her belt. She founded the nonprofit FoodNet Food Bank of Lafayette in 1987 after seeing the need to feed the less fortunate in the parish.

Citron's granddaughter, Michelle Citron, tells KATC her grandmother is also responsible for Faith House, a domestic violence crisis center, and Project Rx, which provides prescription medications for those who don't have the means to obtain them.

The Citron family also owns Hub City Ford, which just celebrated 75 years. Marcelle's father, Brown Fortier, founded the dealership in 1943.

In 2005, Marcelle was awarded for her volunteer work by the Jefferson Awards Foundation during a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Walters Funeral Home in Lafayette is handling funeral arrangements, which are pending at this time.
