Read Across America promotes literacy in children

Posted: Updated:

Read Across America made a stop at the Lafayette Public Library today.

Children of all ages were invited to the event full of stories and crafts.

The theme was Cat in the Hat in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

The National Education Association's Read Across America movement commemorates the renowned author's birthday every year to promote the joys of reading.

"Parental involvement is really important. Reading at an early age guarantees success academically for kids. That's something that Dr. Seuss knew, and he wrote books about that to encourage kids to read and develop vocabulary," said President of the Lafayette Parish Association of Educators Jonathan Cole.
