Pleasant spring-like weather continues Sunday

Posted: Updated:

After a beautiful Saturday, it looks like the nice weather will continue for the rest of the weekend.

This is great news for the runners in the Zydeco marathon as temperatures will be very comfortable in the 50s with low humidity and a mix of sun and clouds.

Clouds will start to become a little more numerous throughout the afternoon as a warm front lifts over the region pushing highs into the mid 70s.

Monday we say goodbye to the beautiful weather as our next cold front approaches Acadiana.

A few scattered showers could begin as early as Monday afternoon out ahead of the front but the rain will become more widespread Monday night as the front swings through South Louisiana.

As the front arrives we could see some heavy downpours along with a few thunderstorms but I am not expecting any severe weather.

But as mentioned some of the showers could be on the heavy side producing a good soaking for most of Acadiana as rainfall totals could be between 1-2 inches, leading to some minor flash flooding in the typical spots.

This rain could also cause some additional issues along the Calcasieu, Red and Sabine rivers which are already running above flood stages.

Some light showers could linger into Tuesday morning before skies gradually clear throughout the day with cooler and drier Canadian air moving into the region.

Temperatures will likely fall Tuesday afternoon into the low to mid 60s before dropping all the way down into the mid 40s by Wednesday morning.

The cool winter-like air mass looks to remain in place for the rest of the work week with highs Wednesday through Friday only topping out in the low to mid 60s.

Morning lows Thursday and Friday will likely fall into the lower 40 while areas to the north of the interstate could see readings as cold as the upper 30s.

Temperatures do look to warm back into the 70s by next weekend, but the bad news is we will have about a 60% chance for showers both days.

Saturday afternoon our next cold front looks to swing into area producing scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.

This front could then stall along the Gulf keeping scattered showers in the forecast for Sunday.

And behind this front Acadiana could see another shot of cool, winter air so keep those heavy coats and jackets handy another couple weeks.
