Former Estherwood police chief arrested on drug and weapon charges

A former chief of police for the Village of Estherwood is in jail on drug and weapon charges.

James Burnett, 69, is accused of selling crystal meth out of a location near a school.

Acadia Parish Sheriff's deputies served a search warrant in the 500 block Jefferson Street on Wednesday. Deputies say, once there, they found methamphetamines and a stolen weapon. 

Burnett was arrested for distribution of crystal methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamines, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within a drug-free zone (school), and possession of stolen property. 

He was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. His bond was set at $45,000.
