UL holds vigil to honor Florida shooting victims

LAFAYETTE -

Dozens of students on UL's campus are taking a stand in solidarity with the survivors of the Florida school shooting. The students held a vigil Thursday night, to remember the victims but to also call each other to stand up and make a difference.

There was a candle lighting, prayers, and a slideshow of those who lost their lives in the shooting.

"Regardless of what you think will be the best method of change, we need to start reaching out to our legislators and our representatives on a state and federal level," said Mary Mcmahon.

"It's really scary; it's scary for me, who I'm attending school, and it's scary for my future. Someday, I want to be a mother, and I want to feel safe when I send my children to school," said Maggie Badger.

The student government plans to continue to have conversations surrounding school shootings and reach out to their local government to see what they can do to help.
