Zydeco Marathon is this weekend

Posted: Updated:

The Fifth Annual Lafayette General Zydeco Marathon happens this weekend.

The event includes a marathon, a half marathon and a relay. The race starts at 7 a.m. Sunday in Downtown Lafayette. More than 2000 runners are expected. The event wraps up with a Finish Line Festival featuring Chubby Carrier & the Swamp Bayou Band and The Swamp Boys in Parc International.

On Saturday, there will be a packet pick-up expo at Blackham Coliseum, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. More than 40 vendors are expected.

Proceeds from the event go to Lafayette General Foundation's NICU Rocks Program and NicView Technology.

"NICU Rocks" is a cuddling program that utilizes volunteers from the Lafayette General Health (LGH) Volunteer Program, mamaRoo® Units, and swings to rock and cuddle infants born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).  It is also geared towards babies whose mother might be in the adult ICU or lives too far away to visit frequently.

The "NicView" camera and stream provides a live view into the baby's Isolette or bassinet in LGMC's NICU and is viewable from any online device, such as a computer, smartphone or tablet.  This view can provide peace of mind to the mother or concerned loved ones while allowing all to observe the baby's daily progress.
