An SLCC T. H. Harris student has been arrested after allegedly bringing a gun to the school's campus in Opelousas this week.

Logan Foret, 20, has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone and illegal carrying of weapons.

Opelousas police responded to the community college after a report was made that a student had a gun on campus. When officers arrived, the student wasn't there, a spokeswoman with the police department said.

The spokeswoman said Broussard police arrested Foret at his home in Broussard this evening. He is being held at the Lafayette Parish Jail and will be transferred to the St. Landry Parish jail tomorrow.

When we reached out to SLCC, they said the student has been served with formal notice that he's banned from campus until the investigation is over.

They also provided us with the following statement:

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. It was brought to the attention of law enforcement in Opelousas that a student was in possession of a gun on the T.H. Harris campus earlier this week. There is no imminent threat to the campus. An investigation by police is ongoing at this time. As a precautionary measure, added security has been placed at the campus and extra patrols are being conducted by local police. Anyone who observes suspicious activity at any time should contact police.
