Sunny with average temperatures the next few days

Posted: Updated:

Behind Thursday's weak front cooler and drier air will slide into Acadiana setting up a cool start to Friday with lows in the low to mid 50s.

The good news is we should have plenty of sunshine Friday afternoon helping to warm highs to near normal for early March in the lower 70s.

Under clear skies Saturday mornings lows will drop all the way into the mid to upper 40s.

We have not seen lows in the 40s in more than 2 weeks going back to the morning of Mardi Gras.

After the chill start on Saturday the rest of the weekend forecast looks pretty good.

We should have another sunny day on Saturday with highs topping out near 70.

Clouds will start to return late Saturday into Sunday so lows Sunday morning won't be as chilly but still cool in the lower 50s.

Sunday afternoon we will have a mix of sun and clouds and the slight chance for a few pop-up showers, especially over western Acadiana, as some tropical moisture works over East Texas.

Moving into the first half of next week the models are having a little trouble figuring out the timing of our next cold front.

The GFS model has the front swinging across Acadiana Monday afternoon producing scattered showers and maybe a couple thunderstorms.

However, the European model is slower and doesn't begin the front through Acadiana until Tuesday morning.

Either way I would expect some showers sometime late Monday into early Tuesday as this front eventually moves into the region.

Behind this front high pressure will build over the eastern part of the country setting up a stretch of cool and sunny days for Acadiana.

Wednesday through next Friday afternoon highs will be slightly below average in the mid 60s with overnight lows dropping down into the low to mid 40s.

Thursday morning looks to be the coldest with lows potentially falling into the upper 30s for areas to the north.

Looking ahead to the following weekend another front could be heading our way producing a round of scattered showers.
