Warm, spring-like Wednesday, cool front Thursday

Posted: Updated:

Acadiana will returns to a late "April" weather pattern through the next 36-48 hours before a cool front brings more "March"-like weather and temperatures back to the region.

Look for mostly cloudy skies, perhaps mixed with some light fog, Wednesday morning with temperatures no lower than the upper 60s.

The morning clouds will give way to partly to mostly sunny skies with breezy south winds Wednesday afternoon as temperature shoot into the lower 80s.

Gusty southerly winds near 15-25 mph will commence mid-morning Wednesday and will continue for most of the afternoon.

Expect another mild Wednesday night into Thursday morning, perhaps with some light fog again. A few showers may develop late Wednesday night ahead of a cool front with better rain chances into Thursday morning.

Shower activity will be weakening as the front moves through Acadiana, but there will likely be a severe weather threat earlier well to our north Wednesday into Wednesday night from Northeastern Texas into Arkansas, perhaps edging into Northern Louisiana, where overall, thunderstorm dynamics will be stronger.

A few super cells possible there may produce storms capable of damaging winds and a few isolated tornadoes.

Locally, look for a 50% chance of scattered showers early Thursday with temperatures in the lower 70s early in the day dropping into the to mid to upper 60s accompanied with breezy northerly winds during the afternoon.

Clouds will gradually clear out into Thursday evening with a couple of nice, mostly sunny and seasonably cool days Friday into Saturday.

Clouds and a few showers may return to the area late Sunday afternoon.

Overall look for temperatures later this week into the weekend to be more "March"-like with highs ranging in the upper 60s to lower 70s while night time lows drop into the upper 40s to lower-mid 50s.

The long range pattern: warm front, rinse, cool front, rinse, repeat. The European Model over the next 10 days shows the ebb and flow of fronts and rain systems through the first week of March...a more frequently changeable pattern indicative of the time of year and also getting Acadiana temperatures more in line with the season.
