According to the Advocate, a proposal from Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Jack Montoucet would see an increase in the price of basic hunting and fishing licenses.

The new proposal, according to Montoucet, would cover the financial issues the department has been dealing with since 2009 due to state budget problems.

The price of basic fishing licenses would increase 42 percent, from $9 to $13.50. Hunting licenses would see an increase of 33 percent, from $15 to $20.

The proposal will go before the state legislature for approval during the regular session. That session begins on March 12.
