When the oilfield took a hit, so did Caleb Sumrall.

"I got laid off," Sumrall said.

The news was devastating to Sumrall. Instead of hanging his head, he dusted off his rod and reel and started to fish.

"It all escalated from there."

Sumrall even entered himself in a fishing tournament--that decision changed the course of his life.

"When I won the tournament it actually opened the doors to make this a reality and do this full time," Sumrall said.

Now, Sumrall does what he does best and in a few short weeks he will be heading to the 2018 Bassmaster Classic in South Carolina. He was also given an invitation to join the 2018 Elite Series.

"If it doesn't work out it won't be because of lack of effort," Sumrall said." It'll be one of those things that I can say I tried."

No matter the outcome of this tournament, Sumrall said he has already proven that when life hands you lemons and you make lemonade anything is possible.

Sumrall will be posting about his journey on his Facebook page.

The competition will start on March 16th in South Carolina.
