Hit Me With Your Best Shot: Cajuns' Opponents Swing Big

Posted: Updated:

LAFAYETTE -- The Ragin' Cajuns are Sun Belt Champions for the first time since 2000.

Speaking for coach Bob Marlin, who was out recruiting, at Monday's weekly press conference director of basketball operations Micheal Murphy said the only thing the regular season championship actually means to the team is now they can schedule their conference tournament meals, because they know when they'll play next week in New Orleans.

Saturday's win at South Alabama snapped a four-game losing streak at USA while extending Louisiana's win streak out to five. But those five have come a little tougher than the first ten Sun Belt victories this season.

The Cajuns' average margin of victory in the 10-0 SBC start was19.7 points. Only one game was decided by 10 or fewer points, of the last five, three of the wins came by such.

Coach Murphy said a lot of that comes down to getting a team's best effort, and sometimes that means making big-time shots.

Louisiana's opponents are averaging ten three-point field-goals made a game, over the last five Louisiana wins.

"Listen, it's a percentage thing," said Murphy. The guy is 30 feet away from the basket, he's got a hand in his face and he makes it, you tip your hat and say job well done. What we don't want to give up is uncontested threes. We chart that and grade the film on that. It's one thing to give up an uncontested three vs. a contested three and if the opponent makes the shot you move on and go to the next play."

Louisiana hosts Arkansas and Little Rock to wrap up it's regular season Thursday and Saturday.
