Fundraiser for 8-year-old who suffered brain injury in crash

Posted: Updated:

A benefit is underway in New Iberia for an 8-year-old who suffered severe brain damage as a result of a crash in January.

The fundraiser and benefit is being held for 8-year-old Curtis Davis at Quarter Tavern on Main Street in New Iberia.

The event includes a "Celebrity Bartending Competition" featuring Catholic High School's Championship football coach Brent Indest, assistant UL football coach Michael Desormeaux and former LSU football player Josh Dwarcyzk, among others.

A silent and live auction and a red beans and rice dinner will also be held. Organizers say that all proceeds will benefit Curtis Davis and help defray medical costs.

Donations can also be made online on their YouCaring page or at any Community First Bank.

Curtis was severely injured after a vehicle crash while on his way to Mississippi with his grandfather Charles Davis in January. He later had brain surgery where it was discovered that he suffered a serious brain injury.
