Posted: Updated:

Plaisance Middle School had a special guest speaker during their Black History program on Saturday.

U.S. Army Retired Lt. General Russel L. Honoré known for saving many lives during Hurricane Katrina back in 2005, joined Councilman Tyrone Glover to speak to those in attendance.

The program touched on topics around defining the black community. Those topics according to organizers were church, family, medicine, politics, and culture.

Organizers say that the event was "historical" and helped put a "spotlight on Plaisance."
