Four Rice Festival board members resign

Posted: Updated:

Four members of the Rice Festival Board of Directors, including the long-time festival coordinator, have resigned their positions, festival officials confirm.

Board chair Chad Monceaux confirmed that Festival Coordinator Roxie Viator, her husband Jody Viator, their daughter Kira Viator Weber and Jonathan Habetz all resigned.

He said he wasn't going to comment on their reasons, because those reasons are person.

However, he did say that festival fans have nothing to worry about.

"We have 126 members in our organization," he said. "The International Rice Festival will go forward without any issues. We will be moving forward just as we would have last week and the week before that."

As always, the festival will be the third weekend in October. This year's event will be the 82nd.

According to the Crowley-Post Signal, Viator had been coordinator for the past 13 years, the paper reports. Jody Viator, who is chief of the Crowley Fire Department, was a grand marshal of the festival parade last year. Kira Weber runs some of the festival's music contests and her band has opened the festival for many years, the paper reports.
