St. Landry Parish -

The movie Black Panther is still drawing sold-out crowds across the country just one week after opening night.

Soon, 200 students from St.Landry Parish will get a chance to see the movie for free.

Organizer Dustin Cravins said after leaving the movie, he knew he had to do something to make a difference for students in the community.

"It was a great movie, and we were very moved and inspired by the message. On the way home, my wife made the suggestion that maybe we should see about sending some kids who may have otherwise not been able to see the movie," Cravins said.

Cravins then teamed up with others in the community, including musicians and politicians to come up with a plan. The final result was to pay for all tickets and concessions for every child.

Senator Gerald Boudreaux stepped in to help as well. "Sometimes, we think going to the movies is just something that everybody does on a regular basis, but I know some of these young people. This will be the first time they actually go to the movies, and I think this is a great opportunity to introduce them to this experience," Boudreaux said.

The grandmother of a Grolee Elementary student is elated for the opportunity for her grandson.

"I feel like it's a learning experience for the simple reason that he is going to get this opportunity, and you know what? This is Black History Month, and we are talking so much about black superheroes in science, math and the arts, and this will give him an opportunity to put things together and see that we can also have a superhero," she said.

"I want to pay it forward, and I know that's the case for all the young men and women who helped make this possible as well. So, I think its important for those in the community to take care of those among us," Cravins said.
