The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a 13-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a social media threat against a school.

The boy was identified and in custody less than an hour after deputies were notified of the threat.

The call went to VPSO just before 9 p.m. Wednesday; the threat was posted on social media.

The boy was booked with one count of terrorizing, a spokesman said.

The boy will appear before a judge this morning, the spokesman said.

Sheriff Sam Craft encourages citizens to immediately report ANY type of threat that they observe on social media.

A screen shot of the threat should be taken to include the username of the person posting the threat, and law enforcement should be contacted IMMEDIATELY and citizens should NOT share posts of this nature as it will incite panic, the sheriff says.

The posting of such threats will not be tolerated, he added.

"These types of threats are very serious and any excuse of such posts being a joke is unacceptable," the sheriff said. "Any person identified as posting such threats will be arrested and charged accordingly."
