Part of the Mississippi River is restricted this morning while the U.S. Coast Guard brings a fire under control.

The towboat Leland Speaks was adrift and on fire this morning near Greenville , Mississippi, a spokesman for the Coast Guard said.

Towboats gained control of the vessel and pushed it aground at mile marker 509.  It had about 80,000 gallons of fuel on board and was pushing 21 dry barges; there so far is no report of any hazardous material on any of the barges, the spokesman said.

The Coast Guard issued a waterway restriction from mile marker 500 to mile marker 520 to limit vessel traffic in the area.

There were eight people aboard the Leland Speaks when the vessel caught fire. The crew reportedly departed the burning vessel onto towboats in there area. There are no reports of injuries, the spokesman said.

There are no reports of pollution or impacts to the environment, he said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
