Two New Iberia teenagers were arrested Wednesday morning, accused in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries.
Every vehicle that was burglarized was unlocked, deputies say.
Chris Anthony Rue Jr., 18, was booked with simple burglary, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated criminal damage to property. Quinndred Batiste,19, was booked with principal to simple burglary, a spokesman said.
Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies were called to L Dubois Road at about 2 a.m. Wednesday by a resident who spotted a suspicious vehicle. Deputies found the 1998 Chevrolet pick-up truck, and when they tried to pull it over, it sped away, the spokesman said.
Deputies chased the pick-up for about four miles before it crashed on East Pershing Street near Bank Street, the spokesman said.
Batiste was the passenger, and was arrested at the scene of the crash. Rue allegedly fled on foot and was captured a short time later, the spokesman said.
Back at L Dubois Road, deputies found several vehicles had been burglarized; as many as 20 had been burglarized, the spokesman said. The pick-up had been stolen from a residence in New Iberia, the spokesman said. The pick-up was unlocked as well.
