LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball sophomore pitcher Summer Ellyson was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week for her efforts last week in wins over a pair of nationally ranked foes.

Ellyson posted a 2-0 mark, earning the win in her starts against nationally ranked foes RV Oregon State and No. 2 Florida.

The highlight of the week was an 11-inning, 185-pitch effort in a 4-3 win over Florida on Sunday.

The Lafayette native and Teurlings Catholic High product scattered eight hits over five times working through the second-ranked Gators' lineup. She kept UF from placing a runner in scoring position from the fourth through ninth innings as she dueled with Aleshia Ocasio.

On Thursday, she worked 4-2/3 strong innings against Oregon State, which included retiring six of the seven hitters faced over the third and fourth innings, as Louisiana built an 8-1 lead.

Ellyson collected her first career weekly award from the Sun Belt Conference.

It’s the second straight week a Ragin’ Cajuns pitcher wins the award. Kylee Jo Trahan took home honors on Feb. 13.
